Middleton Place

Two of America’s Founding Fathers called Middleton Place home: Henry Middleton, a president of the First Continental Congress, and his son Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Now a National Historic Landmark, it is home to 65 acres of America’s oldest landscaped Gardens; a House Museum filled with Middleton family possessions; Plantation Stableyards with heritage breeds and artisans demonstrating the skills needed to maintain an 18th and 19th century rice plantation; and Eliza’s House, a freedman’s dwelling that serves as the centerpiece of Middleton Place’s interpretation of the lives and legacy of the enslaved people who built and maintained the property. Your tour includes a delicious lunch of traditional Low Country cuisine.
